Guest Post: Illustrated Compendium of Search Terms [Elodie]

Hello Memetic Drifters! This is Elodie Glass, a friend of the blog. I hope you’ve been enjoying it as much as I have!

I first met Em on Twitter. Almost immediately, we realized that as we both live in the same city, the most logical progression was to drink some drinks together. We drank the drinks and recognized kindred spirits. Soon I had collected her friend Becky as well! It’s a great case study of Internet meetings leading to some productive, weird and wonderful collaborations.

So here is a guest post in the style of an Illustrated Compendium of Search Terms, which is something that I do for my own blog. (Don’t bother trying to figure out what my blog is about – I still don’t know.) All of the quotes below are actual search terms that people used to find Memetic Drift.  I have done my best to help them find what they were looking for through the immortal medium of MS Paint. The results are astonishing – in part because I am not familiar with Pokeymons or The Avengerers, and in part because the people who found this blog through Google are really weird.

“little blue pokemon looking creature”

Is this what you were searching for?
Is…. this what you were searching for?

“Looks like wasp but no sound”

You have just described a visitation from the Wasp Visitor. You have been blessed.

“most fierce nudibranch”

the most fierce nudibranch
Nudibranches are not inherently warlike, but this one possesses a war chariot drawn by a lesser mollusc, as well as the fabulous coloration and style that can only be summed up as “fierce.”

“evil looking bird”

The science of evil birds is sketchy and hard to understand, which is why it is initially difficult to spot an evil-looking bird.

evil looking bird2
Examine the bird carefully, even if it appears innocent under magnification.
evil looking bird3
The evil-looking bird will always reveal itself.

“marvel hawkeye represents determination”

UM. EXCUSE YOU.

I THINK you will find that marvel hawkeye does NOT represent determination. I know this because I am an expert on marvel hawkeye. I saw “the Avengers movie” ONCE and I almost paid attention to it, and I would 50% recognize him if I saw him again. I have also seen the Internet, which has allowed me absorb vast amounts of information on the symbolic nature of mr. marvel hawkeye. This vast amount of research has made me an expert, as I have already said, and will say again, over and over, until you recognize my Geek Cred Card.

marvel hawkeye represents the booty.

I hope you will think twice before trying to talk to an EXPERT.
Artist’s Note: I am serious about having seen “The Vengeancers” exactly once.

“what’s inspirational about women in science”

It depends on whom you ask. If you ask, for example, the Media, as represented by anyone with a degree in journalism talking about science:

what's inspirational about women in science to begin with

If you ask the people who create science culture:

what's inspirational about women in science22

If you ask practicing women in science:

what's inspirational about women in science the end

if you ask mr marvel hawkeye what is inspirational about women in science:

I think mr marvel hawkeye is maybe the best thing I have ever drawn?!
I think mr marvel hawkeye is maybe the best thing I have ever drawn?!

“how cell eat”

LIKE U DO BUT MORE POLITE. HOW U EAT?!
LIKE U DO. POLITE. HOW U EAT?! DOES CELL ASK U?!

“”why do things get weirder the more you think about them””

“if given a sweet to cat, what will happen”

NEVER DO THIS! NEVER GIVEN SWEET TO CAT!!!!! CAT WILL UNCAT.

DO NOT EVER GIVEN SWEET TO CAT! EVER!!!!!
DO NOT EVER GIVEN SWEET TO CAT! EVER!!!!! DO NOT UNCAT CAT!
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE
WAT HAVE U DONE
EVERYTHING IS MEANINGLESS NOW
WHY U GIVEN SWEET TO CAT

  1. I am sorry, but Mr Marvel Hawkeye is not the best thing you have ever drawn. How Cell Eat is the best thing you have ever drawn. Possibly the best thing anyone has ever drawn.
